Did you know that BALNEA reserve has more than 22 kilometres of forest trails?
Accessible all year round, the network covers a series of uphill and downhill paths set along Lake Gale with many magnificent lookout points. When you visit BALNEA, you can explore them at your own pace, for a true nature immersion, far away from any urban context. Furthermore, every Saturday this autumn, you’re invited to take even more advantage of these trails by participating in the new Nature Run workshops / with Pamela Boucher, a certified coach specializing in foot races.
In fact, I joined one of her morning classes last weekend to learn the basics of trail running. My lack of experience worried me somewhat, but Pamela immediately reassured me: “This class is open to everyone! I can adapt my program to the needs of each participant. The goal is to enjoy the session, to develop new aptitudes, to improve your technique.” Indeed, by explaining the terms, along with her attentiveness and advice, very quickly, I learned quite a lot about the sport. I also immediately understood that Pamela truly feels passionate about running. She was more than ready and eager to start out when I met up with the group outside Balnea’s Welcome Centre. I could tell she was excited about initiating us to her world. After a few warm-up exercises, we started out slowly on gravel-covered paths, sometimes obstructed by tree roots. During the activity, Pamela took the time to teach us some basic trail running techniques since we were a novice group. However, because of her experience as a kinesiologist, naturopath, marathon runner, and participant in such high-performance challenges as Ironman races, she can adapt herself to different needs, from beginners to the most experienced runners!
The route we chose was truly magnificent with all the trees and their changing colours! The ambiance was playful as we ran through flamboyant reds, yellows and a variety of orange leaves covering the trail. Enormous rock formations wrapped with lichen suddenly emerged out of the forest landscape: a fascinating and inspiring display was slowly coming into view as we advanced. From a distance, we could see the beautiful BALNEA installations standing out from the surrounding natural decor projecting a clear, mirror-like reflection on the lake. With my lungs filled with fresh air, my body radiating with renewed energy and my worries far from my head, the idea of enjoying BALNEA’s thermal experience seemed to be even more inviting now. Obviously, physical activity and relaxation do, indeed, go very well together. Only a few more minutes to go before I reach my ultimate relaxation goal!
